Academic/Faculty Career Opportunities

With over 50 Nursing training programs in Michigan, there are many opportunities for qualified nurses to pursue an academic appointment, a part time nurse faculty position, or a full time academic career.  Multiple factors have contributed to the projected nursing workforce shortage.  As a result, nursing school enrollment continues to grow, which has increased the demand for nursing faculty.

Academic/Faculty requirements:

  • Hold current licenses to practice as a registered nurse in Michigan
  • The director of the nursing program shall hold a minimum of a master's degree with a major in Nursing
  • Every member of the nursing faculty providing didactic instruction shall hold a minimum of a master's degreee, the majority of which shall hold a master's degree with a major in nursing.  If the master's degree is in nursing science.
  • Every member of the nursing faculty who provides instruction in the clinical laboratory or cooperating agencies shall hold a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing science.
  • The program director shall hold a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing science.
  • Every member of the nursing faculty shall hold a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing science.
